A bet builder lets you combine several selections from the same match – for example the result, the number of goals and a player to be shown a card – into a single bet with one price. Bet builders are popular because they let you back a “story” of how you think a match will go. This guide explains how they work, how they are priced, what happens with void selections, and how bet builder offers usually work.
What is a bet builder? It is one bet made of two or more selections from the same match, priced together by the bookmaker. Every selection has to win.

How does a bet builder work?
- Open a match that offers bet builder markets.
- Add selections from that match – such as match result, total goals, corners, cards or player markets.
- The bookmaker shows a combined price for all the selections together.
- Place one stake on the combined bet.
Every selection must win for the bet to win. If any one selection loses, the whole bet loses – the same principle as an accumulator.
Why aren’t bet builder odds just multiplied together?
In a normal accumulator across different matches, the bookmaker multiplies the odds of each selection, because the results are independent. In a bet builder, selections from the same match are often related: if a team wins comfortably, it is more likely that more goals are scored. Because of that, bookmakers adjust the combined price, and it is usually lower than you would get by multiplying the individual odds.
Bet builders also often combine markets with relatively high margins, such as player markets. The more selections you add, the bigger the combined price looks – but the less likely the bet is to win. A long bet builder is not a way to make money; it is a bet with a low probability of winning.
Void selections, substitutes and rules to check
Rules differ by bookmaker, so read them before betting. Common points include:
- Player markets – what happens if a player does not start, is substituted early, or does not play at all. Some bookmakers void that selection; others treat the whole bet differently.
- Abandoned or postponed matches – how the bet is settled.
- Cash out – whether it is available on bet builders, and at what price.
- Maximum winnings – some bookmakers cap payouts on combined bets.
Bet builder offers
Bookmakers often run promotions linked to bet builders. Common formats include:
- Bet builder free bet tokens – a token that can only be used on a bet builder, often with minimum odds and a minimum number of selections. The token stake is usually not returned with winnings.
- Bet builder price boosts – an enhanced price on a specific bet builder chosen by the bookmaker, usually with a low maximum stake.
- “Bet and get” offers – place a qualifying bet builder and receive a free bet token.
Since 19 January 2026, a single promotion cannot mix gambling products – for example, it cannot reward a bet builder with casino spins – and any wagering requirement is capped at 10 times (Gambling Commission, LCCP SR Code 5.1.1).

Using a free bet builder token
A free bet token on a bet builder works like any free bet: if the bet wins, you usually receive the winnings minus the token’s stake. If it loses, you lose the token but not your own cash. Treat any return as a bonus, not as income.

Frequently asked questions
Is a bet builder the same as an accumulator?
Both need every selection to win. An accumulator usually combines selections from different events; a bet builder combines selections from the same event, priced together.
Why are bet builder odds lower than multiplying the selections?
Because selections in the same match are often related, so bookmakers price them together.
What if my player doesn’t play?
It depends on the bookmaker’s rules. Check them before placing the bet.
Can you use a free bet on a bet builder? Only if the token allows it. Midnite’s welcome offer includes bet builder free bets (3+ selections, odds of 3/1 or more), while Sky Bet’s welcome free bets are for singles and each-way bets. The terms of each token say what it can be used on.
Can you cash out a bet builder? Some bookmakers offer cash out on some bet builders. It is optional, the value is set by the bookmaker and can be less than your stake, and cashing out can make a bet ineligible for an offer.
