How the Starburst features work
Starburst is deliberately simple. NetEnt’s game page describes two linked features:
- Expanding wilds: the star symbol is a wild. When it lands, it expands to cover the whole reel and substitutes for all paying symbols to help complete lines.
- Respins: every expanding wild triggers a respin. The expanded wild reel stays in place while the other reels spin again, giving another chance to land winning symbols.
There’s no separate free spins round. NetEnt lists a hit frequency of 23%, which means roughly one spin in four or five produces some win on average. Many of those wins will be smaller than the stake, so a “win” doesn’t always mean you’re up on that spin.
Starburst max win
NetEnt’s game page states a maximum payout of 800 x bet. At a 10p stake that would be £80; at the £2 UK maximum for 18–24s it would be £1,600; and at the £5 maximum for 25+ it would be £4,000. That’s the top outcome the game allows, not a likely result.
Starburst stake limits in the UK
Whatever the game’s own settings, UK-licensed casinos must cap online slot stakes at £5 per spin if you’re 25 or over and £2 per spin if you’re 18–24. The £5 limit came in on 9 April 2025 and the £2 limit on 21 May 2025. NetEnt lists a game range of €0.10 to €100 per spin, but at a UK casino the legal limit applies. The casino has to check your age to apply the right limit, so the maximum you see in the game may differ from a friend’s.
